Im taking a sculpture class this semester and have been working on a new piece. Were using an oil based clay which works great because it never dries. You heat the clay until it is runny and then pour it in the mold, as shown below.
It only takes about 10 minutes to cool.
Now you can either add clay or remove it to generate your design.
Now a soft rubber compound is poured onto to the clay sculpture. This rubber retains the detailed revealed in the sculpture. It also acts a protective barrier to the plaster that I will be applying over the top of the sculpture as well.

We made molds and then poured iron in them as well.
